Michael Ware on the 2010 Last Train part 5

The last match was not going well. We could to afford to lose 20-10 (in case 2nd got 25) and in actuality we could afford to lose 24-6. But after 10 of the 16 boards we were 25 imps behind, and not feeling good. Then:

Board 27
Dealer South
Nil Vul

NORTH

sJ643
h182
d1542
c9543

WEST

sQ75
h1Q3
d1J7
cAKJ1086

EAST

sA108
h1AK105
d1KQ93
cQ7

SOUTH

sK92
h1J9764
d1A1086
c2

West….East
1C…….1D
2C…….2H
3NT…..6NT

Cathy had to find a lead from the dreadful North hand. They say don’t lead from Jxxx but here it was the only lead to beat the contract and sure enough Cathy did for a much needed +12 imps.

I had toyed with doubling 1D for a diamond lead and even toyed with doubling 2H for a heart lead (against the supposed final contract of 3NT). I’m glad I didn’t do either of those!

    Michael,

You forgot to mention that you did your bit by (presumably) cashing the DA – spectacular play!
