Ted Chadwick

It is maybe harder for me to believe Ted has died since I’ve been so far away during the last part of his life. I have no doubt the thoughts of everybody are with Marilyn. I know from talks I’ve had in the past with Ted how much he loved Marilyn and it reminds me of my father’s death last year. He said to my mother ‘I don’t mind dying, but I do mind that it means being separated from you’. I can imagine that is how Ted would have thought of things, though he may have been way too sardonic to say it.

The bridge scene in Australia is a poorer place now.

Very sad day indeed.

Bill & I played on quite a few teams with Ted. He was a terrific team mate. He even managed to pillory Victorian bidding without offence, perhaps because he was always first to lambast himself for “bidding like a Victorian”. On the rare occasion 🙂

I was fortunate to be able to have a brief chat with him in Canberra this year, before he had to go back to Sydney. His sense of humour was most impressively and most definitely intact. I’m glad to have that abiding memory of him.

We created the verb “to Ted” after doing a viewgraph (at which he was a phenomenon) together in NZ, which is declarer drawing trumps before setting up the side suit. Oft times I have dragged a partner by the ear to him for an explanation.

I agree with Khokan in regards his wit and patience.

He was a smart guy – seems to me that no matter who his partner was, I was always on lead to Ted. That must have been worth a trick to his playing average.

I’m really sorry to hear about Ted.

I played in a couple of teams with Ted and liked him a lot. Not only was he an excellent player, he was a great teammate.

The thing I liked most about Ted was his humor – he could dish it out, but could also take it. He didn’t take himself too seriously, which was a very endearing quality about him.
